Veniamin Fyodorovich Yakovlev

Adviser to the President

 

Veniamin Yakovlev

Born in 1932 in the town of Petukhovo in Kurgan Region.

In 1953 he graduated from the Sverdlovsk Law Institute.

1953-1956: Lecturer and Director of a Law School in Yakutsk.

1956-1960: Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor of the Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.

1960–1987: Senior Lecturer, Dean, Department Head and Pro-rector at the Sverdlovsk Law Institute.

He holds a doctorate in law and the title of professor. He is a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and has written works on the theory of law, civil law and justice.

1987–1989: Director of the National Research Institute for Soviet Legislation in Moscow. 

1989–1990: Minister of Justice of the USSR. 

In 1991 he was Chairman of the USSR Supreme Arbitration Court.

1991–1992: State Adviser on Legal Policy and Chief of the USSR Presidential Apparatus’ Legal Service.

1992–2005: Chairman of the Supreme Arbitration Court of the Russian Federation. 

Since February 2005: Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation.
