The documents signed in Santiago, above all the Convention on avoiding Double Taxation, will make a major contribution to forming an effective infrastructure for business cooperation between the two countries.

President Vladimir Putin’s first official visit to Chile has resulted in the signing of a joint political declaration by the Russian and Chilean Presidents and seven other bilateral documents.

Mr Putin noted that there are good prospects for developing business cooperation in the mining sector, non-ferrous metals and the energy sector, and also in high-technology areas and peaceful space exploration.

The signature of a protocol on the conclusion of negotiations on goods and services as part of the process of Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organisation is further confirmation of Russia being recognised as a market-economy country.
